SCOUTING REPORT:

Big Picture
Since being traded for Carl Landry at the deadline, Marcus Thornton has provided energy and a valid scoring option to a depleted Kings backcourt. Despite the improved attack, the Kings are still without Tyreke Evans and have lost two in a row and eight of nine to fall to last place with an overall record of 16-51. Evans, who has been sidelined since February with a left foot injury, returned to the practice floor last week and hopes to join the team sometime on the current five-game road trip. With Evans returning in the near future, the Kings will try to salvage the remaining games of the season and end on a strong note.

Last Time Out
The Kings were plagued by turnovers and shot just 34.5 percent from the floor, falling 102-80 to the 76ers at home on Friday night.

The Timberwolves battled the Lakers down to the wire, but Minnesota let a 94-93 lead slip away in the closing minutes of the game to lose 106-98.

The Numbers Game
In the previous meeting on November 10 between Sacramento and Minnesota, Michael Beasley exploded for a career-high 42 points.

Match-up to Watch
DeMarcus Cousins vs. Kevin Love

The intriguing matchup between Love and Cousins could be the difference maker in tonight’s contest, as both squads will look for the young forwards to carry the load in the scoring and rebounding categories. On November 10, Cousins and the Kings held Love to just eight points and scoreless until the fourth quarter. Tonight, look for Love to take Cousins out of his comfort zone early by stretching the Kings interior defense to the perimeter with his stroke from downtown.

What to Look For
With Sacramento limited at the guard position, look for Wesley Johnson to exploit the weakness and have another huge game tonight. After scoring a career-high 29 points against a top-defender in Kobe Bryant, expect Johnson to have a similar output against Marcus Thornton. By holding the height advantage, Johnson should be able to knock down jumpers over Thornton for a big scoring day.
