Scouting Report: Wolves (32-31) vs. Bobcats (31-34) | March 14, 2014

Timberwolves at Bobcats | 6:00 PM — Time Warner Cable Arena
Where to Watch: Fox Sports North

Where to Listen: 830 WCCO-AM

When the Bobcats acquired Al Jefferson this offseason, the hopes were that he would transform the Bobcats into a playoff team.

Mission accomplished. The Cats currently sit in the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference despite having a losing record. As Minnesota fans know, Jefferson is a monster in the paint offensively and isn’t an easy guy to guard. Minnesota will attempt to do that on Friday night.

The Wolves have very little room for error, as they sit 5 ½ games back from the Dallas Mavericks for the eighth seed in the West with just 19 games left on the schedule.

Note the early start being that the game is on the East coast.

Last Meeting

The two teams last faced off on Jan. 10 at the Target Center. Minnesota came away with a 119-92 win behind 26 points from center Nikola Pekovic. Kevin Martin and Kevin Love both had 19 points, while Alexey Shved led the second unit with 11 points. Minnesota shot 47.4 percent (9-19) from the 3-point line.

This Week’s Results

The Wolves are coming off of a 112-101 home win over the Milwaukee Bucks. Love led the Wolves with 27 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Martin pitched in with 26, while J.J. Barea led the second unit with 19 points. Pekovic scored 14, while Ricky Rubio had 11 points and 10 assists.

Minnesota is 3-2 in its last five games.

The Bobcats are coming off of a 98-85 road win over the Washington Wizards. Jefferson led the way with 26 points and 10 boards. Walker had 16 points, while Gerald Henderson pitched in with 13. Chris Douglas-Roberts and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scored 10 points each.

Charlotte is 4-1 in its last five games.

What To Watch: Kevin Love vs. Al Jefferson

When Jefferson was in Minnesota, Love wasn’t nearly the player he is now. Now the two players are a lot alike in the sense that they are the leaders for their respective teams.

Jefferson is known to have some of the best post moves in the NBA, while Love is a threat inside and outside. Love said in practice Thursday that the Wolves will throw whatever they can at Jefferson to slow him down on the offensive end.

Injury Report

Minnesota center Ronny Turiaf (bone bruise in right knee) is out indefinitely.

Charlotte center Brendan Haywood (left foot surgery) is out indefinitely. Jeff Taylor (right Achilles surgery) will miss the remainder of the season. Guard Gary Neal (personal) is questionable.
