Scouting Report: Wolves (25-28) vs. Pacers (41-12) | Feb. 19, 2014

Timberwolves vs. Pacers | 7:00 PM — Target Center

Where to Watch: Fox Sports North, ESPN

Where to Listen: 830 WCCO-AM

These two teams are in two different places heading down the final stretch of the season, but winning is still on the checklist for both.

The Pacers are trying to fend off the Miami Heat and hold onto that No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, hoping to clinch home-court advantage throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Speaking of playoffs, the Wolves are just trying to get there. Minnesota hit a bit of a road bump going into the All-Star Break, but the Wolves sit just six games back from the Dallas Mavericks for the eighth seed. It’s go time now for the Wolves, with just 29 games remaining on the schedule.

Last Meeting

The two teams last played on Nov. 25 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The Pacers came away with a 98-84 win thanks to 26 points from Paul George and George Hill. George also added eight rebounds and four steals, while Hill added seven assists and five steals. David West and Lance Stephenson finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Kevin Love led Minnesota with 20 points and 17 rebounds, but shot just 6-of-20 from the field. Kevin Martin and Nikola Pekovic both finished with 18 points. The Wolves played just eight players in the game and shot a brutal 3-of-19 from the 3-point line.

This will be Minnesota’s first game since the All-Star Game. The Wolves were 1-4 in their last five games going into the break.

The Pacers played last night at home, and beat the Hawks 108- 98 behind 26 points from George, 12 coming from the 3-point line. West added 17 points, while Stephenson contributed with 13 points, seven assists and five rebounds. Roy Hibbert finished with 10. Hill, Danny Granger and Luis Scola all finished with nine.

Indiana is 3-2 in its last five games.

What To Watch: Kevin Love vs. Paul George

These two players just spent plenty of time with each other as both players were All-Star starters for their respected conferences.

It was George’s East team that came away with the win Sunday, but Love hopes to get revenge at home tonight.

Both offenses run through these players and it’s obvious by looking at the numbers.

Love is averaging 25.8 points (4th in NBA), 13.2 rebounds (2nd in NBA) and four assists (career-high) per game this season. With no Pekovic and Martin, expect another big night from Love.

George has continued to grow as a player. The slasher is averaging a career-high 22.3 points per game to go with 6.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists.

Expect a back-and-forth battle between these two on national TV.

Injury Report

The Wolves will be without center Nikola Pekovic (ankle) and shooting guard Kevin Martin (thumb) indefinitely. Both players will be reevaluated later this week and there’s a possibility they could play as soon as Saturday vs. Utah.

Indiana looks to be at full strength.
