Rehab Report: Jonny FlynnThe Wolves security staff may have to place Jonny Flynn in a harness and strap the young point guard into his seat. After returning to the floor for the first time this season in a Sioux Falls Skyforce uniform, Flynn is dripping with desire but remains patient as he attempts to suit up for the Wolves in the next couple of weeks.
“It’s the toughest thing knowing that you are so close to getting back out there but you don’t want to rush things,” Flynn expressed. “It’s a fine line between being smart and being ready to play, so I’m just trying to sit down and listen to my body and see how I feel.”
Watching Flynn chat with the media on Saturday night at the Target Center, he could barely remain still when envisioning a chance to build on last year’s development. For the immediate future, the second-year point guard does not rule out another trip to the D-League for more seasoning.
“Going to the D-League, you can control a lot of variables you can’t control when you are playing in the NBA. You control when you go in the game, you control really when you want to come out, and you control a lot of things, so I’m definitely all for it,” Flynn explained.
On Friday night, Flynn sported the white and turquoise Skyforce uniform, scoring eight points, dishing out nine assists, and snagging two steals. The 24 minutes of action provided Flynn with a game atmosphere against NBA caliber players. Aside from the D-League contest, he was regulated to full contact practice, specialized drills, and constant monitoring. The opportunity for the 2009 No. 6 overall pick was essential to rebuild the feel for rhythm and pace.
“It felt natural,” Flynn stated. “Some things you might be a tad bit slow at but that just comes with more practice, more getting out there and playing in those types of situations.”
The former Syracuse product traveled with the team to New York City and they will evaluate his status to either make a return trip to Sioux Falls at the end of the week or begin logging NBA minutes in a Wolves uniform.
