Kevin Love's Freestyle Slam

Well, we knew Kevin Love was upping his assists totals this year, but this is taking it to a whole new level.

Just before practice at the Suns’ facility Thursday inside US Airways Center, Love tossed a ball against the side wall, let it bounce and threw down an alley-oop reverse jam in front of all his Timberwolves teammates. The place erupted in celebration right afterwards.

Does this qualify as one of Love's famous outlet passes?

“It was a funny celebration because I said, “If I get it, you guys have to go wild.’" Love said. "I think Ronny was filming it and he got everybody’s reaction. It was completely spontaneous, one of those just fun things, but LeBron I guess was probably a little more aerodynamic than I was on that.”

The dunk, which had shades of LeBron James' jam at practice earlier this year, was impressive enough to earn mentions of James from Love's teammates after practice.

“We were just trying to imitate the big fella down in South Beach," guard Kevin Martin said. "K-Love’s got a couple more cuts in his body that he needs to get but I think he did a great job throwing it off, a nice little highlight reel.”

Side Note: Martin and Nikola Pekovic both participated in 5-on-5 play at practice on Thursday, a good sign as both try to return to the court after missing time with injuries. Martin has a broken left thumb and Pekovic has bursitis in his right ankle.

Love continues to do things on the court that amaze us. He’s currently in the midst of 11 straight games with 25 points/10 rebounds, which hasn’t been done in more than 13 years. He’s got a franchise-record six straight 30-plus point games going—surpassing Kevin Garnett’s four—and he just registered his first career triple-double in Utah on Saturday. He was one assist shy of another on Tuesday in Phoenix.

The Wolves are off until Saturday when they take on the Sacramento Kings. They’ll be practicing in Phoenix until then, and clearly US Airways Center has been a special place for the Wolves over the last couple days. Not only did the Wolves pick up a big comeback 110-101 win over the Suns, but Love displayed his magic in the game and in today’s practice.

It makes you wonder: What will Love do next?
