Johnson Named to T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Second Team

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Wes Johnson has been named to the 2010-11 T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Team, the NBA announced earlier today. Johnson was named to the Second Team after averaging 9.0 points (6th among rookies), 3.0 rebounds (9th) and 1.9 assists (T-7th) while shooting 35.6 percent from behind the arc (3rd).

The T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Teams were selected by a voting panel consisting of the NBA’s 30 head coaches, who were asked to choose five players for the first team and five players for the second team, regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Two points were awarded for first team votes and one for second team votes.

Johnson, the fourth overall pick of the 2010 NBA Draft, appeared in a team-high 79 games for the Wolves during his rookie season, including 63 starts. He poured in a game- and season-high 29 points on Mar. 18 at the Lakers, equaling the most by a Wolves rookie since Stephon Marbury tallied 33 vs. Utah on Dec. 23, 1996. The effort was one of four times he led Minnesota in scoring and one of five games with 20+ points on the season. Johnson also connected on 103 three-pointers during the season, surpassing Marbury's club record for treys by a rookie (102 in 1996-97).

Johnson joins Felton Spencer, Kevin Garnett, Craig Smith, Kevin Love and Jonny Flynn as Timberwolves rookies to earn second team honors. Pooh Richardson, Christian Laettner, Isaiah Rider, Stephon Marbury, Wally Szczerbiak and Randy Foye all earned first team honors during their rookie seasons in Minnesota.
