Jonah Ballow: Let's focus on what you've been doing this offseason. Back in California I imagine?
Kevin Love: Yeah, back in California, just getting back into things. I started June 1, took a little bit more time off after the season than I usually would have but just getting back into things, getting back on the court -- felt great. Getting in here today was great as well, get to see Derrick Williams, get to see Malcolm Lee, Ricky [Rubio] obviously played, so it was good to see fresh new faces in here and get everybody back in the gym and get together before the lockout.
Jonah Ballow: I know you met Ricky in Istanbul and had a chance obviously to watch him play but when you finally get on the floor with him, run some transition drills -- I know you didn't get into the game type of stuff but you get a sense of what he's all about.
Kevin Love: You just see his vision and the passes that he makes are just unbelievable -- the things he sees. He's just always a step ahead and a pass ahead of the game, so I'm looking forward to working with him, in the pick-and-roll, in the open floor, it's going to be a lot of fun. Not only to watch but also to play with, so I'm really looking forward to it.
Jonah Ballow: You mentioned a fellow Pac 10 member, Derrick Williams, the No. 2 overall pick. This is a guy that played the small forward and power forward position, so how do you think adding a player like that and his versatility along with Beasley, Wes, and yourself will help you guys in the future?
Kevin Love: The good part about the three guys you mentioned, there all very versatile, they can all play multiple on the floor and whether Derrick and Michael are playing the 3 or the 4, they can switch the positions and Wes as well can play the 2 or 3, so all the those guys can really shoot it, all those guys can really put the ball on the floor. Like I said, the versatility among those three players is what's going to make us really exciting whether we want to go up-tempo or stay in the half-court. It's going to be interesting to see the different matchups we have. Whether we go small or go big, it's gonna be fun thing to be a part of.
Jonah Ballow: And, maybe Kevin Love at the center spot?
Jonah Ballow: How's your health? I know you ended the season with the groin injury, also had some surgery on your mouth. So, how are you feeling right now?
Kevin Love: I'm feeling great. Obviously, I'm not where I want to be shape-wise but it's gonna be a long summer and be able to work on my body and being out in LA and they have tremendous trainers here. Every time I come back to Minnesota, it's always going to be great working with the Timberwolves. For me, just getting back into it as far as my body goes, I'm 100 percent.
Jonah Ballow: Charles Barkley on the Dan Patrick Show called you the most underrated player in the league. You’re getting noticed and I think you are one of the most underrated players but you’re also going to have an X on your back – the All-Star coming back. Expectations do rise for you, so how do you take that next step, next year?
Kevin Love: Just keep working. Every time when someone asks me," What are you going to do this summer?" Just continue to work, continue to get better, continue to work on my body but for me, it's proving that I can do this year in and year out. I'm very exciting with the crew that we have and I think the fans and organization should be very excited. With Ricky, Derrick, Malcolm, and all the new guys and fresh faces, we have a lot of flavor on our team, so it's going to be a fun thing to be a part of.
Jonah Ballow: You having a fun summer too?
Kevin Love: I am, yeah. Getting to enjoy it a little bit. You know, it's been June-doom a little bit in Santa Monica but I'm looking forward to traveling around. The main focus for me is to be basketball and I'm looking forward to working.
