STEPHEN CURRY

Age: 21
College: Davidson
Position: Point/Shooting Guard
Height: 6-3
Weight: 185
Class: Junior

Curry enters the NBA draft after another highly productive season at Davidson, where he solidified his ranking as the best shooter in college basketball. In returning for his junior season, Curry transitioned to the point guard spot to improve his draft stock in 2009. Curry is a prolific scorer from just about every spot on the floor. Amazingly enough, the 6-3 guard finds space to shoot with a quick release and exceptional footwork. Last year, Curry posted 28.6 points per game while facing double and triple teams. This marksman is dangerous off screens, off the dribble, and even found teammates for 5.6 assists per game. Curry also has the pedigree, his father; Dell Curry played 16 seasons in the NBA.

Scouts are separated on the future for Curry at the next level. One camp believes he will make adjustments against taller and stronger defenders on the perimeter. The other camp is not sold on Curry's athleticism, defensive abilities, and playmaking skills at the point guard position. Curry did not play in a BCS conference, which might concern NBA teams who evaluate his competition level on a nightly basis. At 185 pounds, Curry will have to build some muscle in order run off screens.

Curry fits one big need for the Wolves: shooting. If he can make the leap to the NBA game, Curry could become an essential piece for the Wolves next season. Minnesota would have a couple of options if it decided to draft Curry in the lottery. Option A - start Curry at the point guard spot next to Foye. Option B - bring Curry off the bench to play either the one or the two. Either way, the Wolves immediately add a sharpshooter to the roster, which is always a good thing for a team who shot 35.3 percent from deep range in 2008-09.

ESPN college basketball analyst Fran Fraschilla on Stephen Curry

Chad Ford's Top 100
"Curry is the best pure scorer in the country. But it's been his move to the point guard position that has turned scout's heads. Curry's combination of a killer jump shot, floor vision and basketball IQ have scouts calling him a better version of his dad, former Hornets sharpshooter Dell Curry."

Draft Express
"Stephen Curry had little opportunity to be efficient, since he was doing enough shooting for three people at Davidson."

NBADraft.net
"Made transition from SG to PG this year, but he is more of a combo guard that makes good decisions than a true PG ... Best scorer in the NCAA so far at 31.9 PPG ... Puts a lot of pressure on defense with his scoring ability and quickness ... Looks fearless on the floor and plays under control."
