Wolves Web Report
Foye Finding Rhythm
Let the coming out party begin for Randy Foye. Sunday night, Foye posted 14 assists in the blowout victory over the Detroit Pistons. The career-high game for Foye is the third-best assist performance in the league this season behind Chris Paul and Jose Calderon. Foye ranks 13th in the league in assists per game at 5.8 as the Wolves hope the third-year guard will continue to improve as the season progresses.
Possession Protection
At times, stats can be overblown. However, the Wolves are the top ranked team in the one of the most important statistical categories in the league. Minnesota holds an assist to turnover radio of 1.87, which is .21 higher than the second ranked Portland Trail Blazers. The Wolves are taking care of the basketball while remaining effective with ball movement to also rank second in assists per game. The statistical ranking is even more impressive considering Minnesota faced three top Eastern Conference defensive teams this past week against Philadelphia, Boston, and Detroit.
A Glance at the Northwest
The Denver Nuggets have climbed to the top of the Northwest Division by winning eight of their last ten games. The trade for Chauncey Billups is a direct reflection of the 9-5 overall record for the team. Billups leads the Nuggets in free throw and 3-point shooting percentage while scoring 18.6 points a game. The Utah Jazz have dropped to second in the division with injuries to star players through the first 15 games of the year. With Carlos Boozer and Deron Williams missing significant time, Andrei Kirilenko leads the team in scoring at 13 points per game. Minnesota can look at the bright side with a 3-9 record. The Wolves are only five games out of first place in the division and 3.5 games from San Antonio for the eighth spot in the Western Conference.
