Cloud Tech vs. Manitowoc Roncalli (Wisc.) Recap

The St. Cloud Tech Tigers and Manitowoc Roncalli Jets wrapped up the 13th annual Gatorade-Timberwolves Shootout presented by Best Buy at the Target Center tonight.

St. Cloud Tech used a big second half run and an outstanding effort from senior forward Nate Wolters to win 78-49. The game was close at halftime, with the Tigers up just 35-34, but it was a totally different game in the second half. St. Cloud used a number of steals to convert fast break opportunities, and aggressively drove the lane to get high percentage shots at the basket against the hapless Manitowoc defense.

Wolters finished with a game-high 29 points. He also added five rebounds, four assists, and a whopping seven steals. Center Alex Hanks used tough physical play to chip in for 18 points. St. Cloud finished with 14 offensive rebounds to Manitowoc Roncalli's two.

Manitowoc Roncalli led for parts of the first half on strong three-point shooting, including three threes from sophomore Ben Stelzer. The second half, however, was a different story. They seemed demoralized by their turnovers and never got into a groove on offense. One reason might have been fatigue; the Jets played only seven players during the entire 36-minute affair. Adam Koss led the team with 13 points and five rebounds, while Stelzer finished with 12.

The Gatorade-Timberwolves Shootout has attracted some of the best basketball talent from all over the country. Over the years, 18 future NBA players have participated in the Shootout, including Timberwolves point guard Sebastian Telfair and forward Kevin Love, in addition to more than 180 Division I college athletes. This year's Gatorade-Timberwolves Shootout will bring in over 15 players expected to play in Division I basketball programs.
