Monday Practice Notes
On Sunday afternoon, the Wolves snapped a seven-game losing skid with a 108-99 victory over the Nets. Craig Smith and Randy Foye missed the game due to injuries, which will affect their status for Tuesday's contest against Dallas. Head coach Kevin McHale talked at length with the media on Monday following practice. The outlook does not look good for Smith as he battles a calf strain that will not allow him to run at full speed, according to McHale. Foye is still struggling with a hip injury that sidelined him earlier in the month.
McHale discussed the improvement from Rodney Carney this year and if the Wolves will bring back the small forward for the 2009-10 season. Carney scored 19 points off the bench for Minnesota in the win on Sunday. McHale was extremely complimentary regarding Carney's game but felt he could work on ball handling and the mid-range jumper.
Finally, the head coach told reporters about the maturation process from his team following the blown 29-point lead in Dallas on December 30. McHale believes the Wolves learned a valuable lesson in the loss and can translate the experience into wins in the future.
