Recaps: October/November | December | January | February | March

The month of March opened with a resounding 121-97 win over division rival Dallas at Target Center, evening the season series at 2-2. The Wolves held a 67-62 lead at halftime but outscored the Mavs 54-35 in the second half to stop Dallas' six-game winning streak.

The Wolves then lost two straight at home. The Rockets escaped with a 112-109 win, then Boston rallied from a 13-point deficit to win 80-77. Between the losses, the Wolves held their annual Taste of the Timberwolves event.

Minnesota broke the short losing streak with a 105-92 win at Seattle, overcoming 37 points from Ray Allen with Latrell Sprewell's 31 points and Kevin Garnett's 29. The following night, Minnesota held an early lead before the Blazers went on a 23-6 run in the second period to win 92-79 in Portland.

The Timberwolves returned to a record single-game crowd at Target Center (20,391). The fans saw their home team defeat the Lakers 96-86, Minnesota's third win over L.A. during the regular season, clinching the season series for the first time. Troy Hudson and former Laker Mark Madsen led the Wolves' bench to a 35-17 advantage over the L.A.'s bench, with Hudson hitting 4-of-6 three-pointers in the game and Madsen scoring all six of his points in the fourth quarter.

The Blazers then defeated the Wolves for the second time in five days, this time at Target Center, 92-83. The loss dropped the Wolves to 1-3 vs. Portland during the season; the Blazers were the only team to take a season series from Minnesota in 2003-04. The following game, San Antonio's Tim Duncan came off the bench but the Spurs still defeated the Wolves, 106-86.

The road trip continued in Phoenix, where Minnesota's 93-80 win gave the Wolves their first season sweep of the Suns in team history. Wally Szczerbiak scored a season-high 24 points, including three fourth-quarter three-pointers, and Fred Hoiberg made two "threes" in the final period.

Kevin Garnett became the 17th player in league history to surpass 13,000 points, 7,000 rebounds and 3,000 assists as the Wolves defeated the Nuggets, 98-77, at Target Center. His seven assists in the game gave him the milestone. The Wolves earned their eighth consecutive postseason spot the following night when the Blazers lost to the Rockets.

In the final matchup of the season vs. Midwest rival San Antonio, the Wolves evened the season series at two games apiece with an 86-61 win at Target Center. Garnett had 27 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocks, almost matching Duncan's 26, eight, five and three. Ervin Johnson forced a jump ball with Duncan with 15 seconds remaining, then won the tip to allow the Wolves to hold onto the lead. Cassell recorded his third career triple-double (14 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds), becoming the first Timberwolf other than Garnett to accomplish that feat in nearly two seasons.

The Nuggets got revenge for the previous week's loss with a 101-92 win in Denver, breaking a streak of eight consecutive Wolves wins in the series in the final matchup between the two teams before they met in the first round of the playoffs. Another loss followed, 90-73 to the Lakers in L.A., but that would be the last regular-season loss for the Timberwolves. Minnesota was one of only three NBA teams (including Indiana and Sacramento) that didn't endure a three-game losing streak in 2003-04.

The Wolves went on a three-game winning streak to end the month, which would stretch to a season-high nine consecutive wins to end the season. First up was a 98-82 win over the Clippers at Staples Center, sweeping the season series and extending the series streak to seven consecutive wins. Two nights later, the four-game road trip ended with a 94-88 win in Houston, tying the season series at two games apiece, behind a near triple-double from Garnett (27 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists). The game was tied at 88 with 34 seconds remaining, but Garnett hit a jump shot with 18 seconds left and the Wolves hit all four of their free throws down the stretch to cap a 13-4 game-ending run.

A win over Seattle on the last day of the month, 90-83 at Target Center, set a franchise record with the team's 52nd win of the season. Prior to the game, the Wolves signed Darrick Martin for the remainder of the season and placed Hudson on the IL.

During March, the Wolves' nine wins all came against Western Conference teams, five of which ended up as 2004 playoff teams. The Wolves moved 28 games over .500 for the first time in franchise history and ended the month 1.5 games ahead of the Spurs in the Midwest.
