Continuing their commitment to Timberwolves fans, the Timberwolves Fan Relations department created another special event for season tickets holders. Before the Timberwolves games on Tuesday, Feb. 17 and Thursday, Feb. 19, season ticket holders had the opportunity to listen and talk to Kevin McHale, Vice President of Basketball Operations/General Manager, talk about the Timberwolves and the NBA.
Kevin also took questions from the group. Some subjects covered:

Latrell Sprewell's drive: One fan asked about Latrell and his having an off night. Kevin doesn't mind and he loves that Latrell prowls the whole court all game long. Latrell contributes even when he's having an off night shooting. He enables rebounds for KG and plays great defense, especially off picks.

Kevin likes to watch the players without the ball and see how they contribute when they are not personally scoring. He shared that statistics are overrated and talked about how on the Celtics he would focus on helping the team win without scoring points.

Sometimes the basket is as big as an auditorium: Expanding on players having a poor shooting night, Kevin talked about how sometimes the basket is so small and nothing goes in. Other nights, the basket is as big as an auditorium and every shot drops. Again, for Kevin, it is important for a player to contribute to the team and help the team win without scoring. Another Timberwolves player living that example is Ervin Johnson, who has had some great games lately!

The unknowns of drafting players: The hardest thing to measure is the brain. It's the most powerful thing. Drafting players, these are the unknowns of giving a young person millions of dollars.
|

KG's work ethic: Kevin Garnett is a pleasure to have on the team because of his work ethic and commitment to being a professional.
