Kevin Garnett talks about his charity contributions

Minnesota Timberwolves all-star forward Kevin Garnett today announced he has partnered with Oprah Winfrey's Angel Network to assist with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.

On today's Oprah Winfrey Show, Garnett surprised the host by pledging to assist hurricane victims by building one new home per month every month for the next two years. Garnett's contribution will total $1.2 million dollars and will construct 24 new homes.

"I'm extremely excited to be working with such a quality individual like Oprah Winfrey and her organization," Garnett said. "I heard Oprah's message about what people could do individually to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina, and it made me think about what I could do. I'm glad to be partnering with an organization that is dedicated to making a difference, and through this project we are directly helping people who need it the most."

Garnett is working through Oprah's Angel Network which has been working to rebuild lives and homes for those people affected by Hurricane Katrina through individual and corporate donations. To donate or sponsor homes or household items with Oprah's Angel Network, visit www.oprah.com.

Oprah's Angel Network is a 501(C)(3) organization supporting programs for women, children and families, educational programs and health and human services. Winfrey reimburses Oprah's Angel Network for its administrative expenses and overhead costs, and as a result 100% of contributions go directly to funding charitable organizations.
