Grant PresentationThroughout the season the Roger and Nancy McCabe Foundation partnered with the Fastbreak Foundation to positively impact the lives of Minnesotans. On April 15th the Roger and Nancy McCabe Foundation continued their support of the community by presenting a $5,000 grant to the Minnesotans’ Military Appreciation Fund. The MMAF shows support and appreciation to military personnel deployed in combat zones by providing grants to all Minnesota soldiers, as well as to the families of the soldiers who are killed in combat.

Grant PresentationAs part of Think Green month the Fastbreak Foundation teamed up with My 29 to ask area schools to tell us what they are doing to go green. On April 13th we honored our winning school, Nawayee school in Minneapolis. Students at this school work hard to plan, plant, tend and harvest their school garden and last year they learned to build compost bins. Nawayee school was honored with a $2,500 check and a Think Green wolfie trophy.

Hero in the MakingAs part of the Fastbreak Foundation’s Think Green initiative the Timberwolves focus their efforts on raising awareness for environmental causes. On April 5th the Fastbreak Foundation honored Do It Green! Minnesota. The mission of this organization is to educate Minnesotans about green and sustainable living as well as to promote building healthy, local communities.

Grant PresentationDuring the month of April, the Fastbreak Foundation focuses on raising awareness for environmental causes, highlighting eco-friendly efforts in the community and recognizing local individuals and organizations for their help in preserving and improving our environment. On April 5th the Minnesota Timberwolves Fastbreak Foundation presented a $5,000 grant to H2O For Life. H20 For Life is an educational youth engagement opportunity for kids to provide water wells for schools in developing countries. Funding will be used to engage and educate for Minnesota schools and the H2O For Life program.

Grant PresentationAs part of their “Think Green’ initiative the Minnesota Timberwolves Fastbreak Foundation presented a $5,000 grant to Memorial Blood Centers. In the month of April volunteers can go green by donating blood. As the ultimate renewable resource in the human body, blood is being continuously replenished and can be donated as often as six times a year!

This family and education program creates a positive, nurturing environment for multi-cultural, multi-lingual children and their caregivers. The program focuses on children’s literacy and school readiness.

Grant PresentationThe FastBreak Foundation honored a AVID with a $2,500 grant. AVID is a national program that is in its 6th year in the St. Paul Public School District. AVID’s mission is to assist students who are in the “academic middle” by preparing them for admission to 4-year colleges and universities.

Grant PresentationIn March the Timberwolves FastBreak Foundation focuses their efforts on education, reading and putting books in the hands of Minnesota Children. As part of Read to Achieve Month the Timberwolves honored Northern Voices with a $5,000 grant. Northern Voices is a non-profit school for children with hearing loss. Funding will directly benefit their educational programs and classrooms.

Heroes in the MakingAs part of the read to achieve month the FastBreak Foundation focuses their attention on education, fostering the love of reading and putting books in the hands of the children of Minnesota. The Timberwolves honored Maasia Apet and Syncerety Edwards as our Heroes in the Making for being the most improved readers in the St. Paul Avid Program. Both students were presented team signed basketballs as congratulations.

Heroes in the MakingAs part of the Minnesota Timberwolves Fastbreak Foundation's starting five reading program, Over 37,000 elementary school students across Minnesota combined to read over 6 million pages in just two months. The Fastbreak Foundation's is proud to honor the top readers in the state as our heroes in the making. Andy Mason from Bridges Community School and Alex Cecena from Valley View Elementary were each presented a Ricky Rubio jersey as a congratulations for being the top readers.

Heroes in the MakingThe Fastbreak Foundation's Read to Achieve month works to service, support and encourage Minnesota youth to read at home. As part of the foundation's starting five reading program, over 160 elementary school students from St. Paul's Avid Program participated in the reading challenge. The Fastbreak Foundation honored Avid’s top 3 readers: Louis Melgar from Battle Creek Elementary, Myah Love from Riverview Westside Elementary and Luwam Worasi from St. Anthony Park Elementary.

Heroes in the MakingAs part of Read to Achieve month the Fastbreak Foundation honored Minnesota Reading Corps and its tutors. Minnesota Reading Corps is committed to helping Minnesota children become successful readers by the end of 3rd grade. The Timberwolves recognized two of their over 1,000 Americorps Literacty tutors who work with over 30,000 children across our state. Gina Kinkin and Reo Patton are dedicating a year of national service to help students develop early literacy skills that are critical to becoming proficient readers.

Heroes in the MakingAs part of Read to Achieve month the Fastbreak Foundation focuses on education, fostering the love of reading and putting books in the hands of Minnesota children. The Fastbreak Foundation is proud to honor Minnesota Literacy Council and two of its volunteers: Emily Crenner and Rick Michals. Emily worked in the literacy council's summer reads program as a tutor for low income youth in the twin cities, and that experience led her to her current internship with their children's tutor training program. Rick took classes at the Minnesota Literacy Council's open door learning center that helped him get his GED. He has volunteered doing outreach to connect other adults to classes, and he's in college working on his HVAC certification.

Heroes in the MakingThe Minnesota Timberwolves Fastbreak Foundation and Minnesota Foodshare honored the members of Horseplay. This four-person band of Belle Plaine High School students are passionate supporters of this annual statewide fund and food drive. This year, with a corresponding match, the band raised more than $2,700 at a recent concert to benefit the Belle Plaine food shelf.

Grant PresentationThe Minnesota Timberwolves FastBreak Foundation honored North Metro Pediatrics with a $5,000 grant on February 2nd. This funding will be used to help support the sports physical clinics in Anoka, Hennepin and Fridley School Districts. The funds will allow North Metro Pediatrics to connect high school students from low-income families with school and city athletic programs by alleviating the expensive cost of physicals.
