Where He’ll Go:

Hield is expected to be a top-10 pick.

Best Game In 2015-16

On March 10, in the Big 12 Conference Tournament, Hield helped Oklahoma to a close 79-76 win against No. 21 Iowa State. The sharpshooter finished with a game-high 39 points to go with nine rebounds, two blocks, one assist and one steal. He shot an efficient 14-for-21 from the field, 2-for-6 from the 3-point line and a perfect 9-for-9 from the free-throw line.

Strengths

The dude can shoot. We know that. He was a great 3-point shooter in college and it’d be weird if that didn’t translate to the NBA, but then again, Jimmer Fredette.

He’s a great shooter in transition as well, almost Danny Green like. He’s not one dimensional, either. He can get off a shot if he needs to with some beautiful foot work and his ball handling isn’t off the charts, but it’s improved over the years.

For where he’s slotted to be picked, he’ll probably be a solid scorer off the bench for a team.

Weaknesses

Hield isn’t going to blow by you. He’s not the most explosive athlete.

He didn’t pass much in college. We don’t really know if it’s because he’s not really looking for it or because the Oklahoma offense revolved around him.

He’s improved defensively, but he’s still probably a little below average, and his height doesn’t help him playing the shooting guard position.

Ratke’s Take

I became a huge Hield fan this season and it was hard not to. The guy took over in big games. Being such a young team, the Wolves could probably benefit from having a 22-year-old rookie come along rather than a one-and-done youngster, but there have been plenty of four-year players who haven’t worked out. Hield is a dead-eye shooter, but I think he also has the ability to drive to the basket. That has yet to be seen in the NBA, though. Defensively, I think he can be OK. It’s promising that he improved in each year at Oklahoma. Last year he was considered a fringe first-round pick and now he will probably go in the top-10.
