Mateen Cleaves enjoyed one of the most storied careers in NCAA history. A native of Flint, Mich. playing at nearby Michigan State with fellow "Flintstones" Morris Peterson and Charlie Bell, Cleaves completed his college career as the Big Ten's all-time assists leader, a two-time Big Ten Player of the Year, a three-time AP All-American (First Team as a junior, Second Team as a sophomore and senior) and the Most Outstanding Player of the 2000 Final Four as his Spartans won the national championship in his final collegiate game. A first-round pick of the Detroit Pistons, Cleaves has been unable to reach those same pinnacles as a professional, but he has carved out a niche for himself as a powerfully positive presence in the locker room and a consummate pro.
