At 7-1, 272, Jerome James is one of the biggest players in Sonics history, and his size 22 shoes are the largest worn by any Sonics player. James started his career as a second-round pick of the Sacramento Kings. After playing spot minutes as a rookie, he suffered a torn ACL that wiped out his second season. While away from the court, James gained weight and was waived by the Kings when he returned. James went overseas, playing in Italy in Yugoslavia, where he caught the eyes of Sonics scouts. James dazzled fans and the team alike in a scrimmage before the 2002 Sonics Summer League schedule, and earned a guaranteed contract. After starting 40 games in 2001-02, he was re-signed to a long-term deal. James is amongst the best shot blockers in Sonics history on a per-minute basis and has provided a presence in the paint over his four years with the team.
