Thunder Practice Wraps Up; Defense Top Priority

Thunder Head Coach Scott Brooks, guard James Harden and forward Nick Collison each addressed the media on Friday.

All three men discussed needing to play full team defense as the Thunder continues to work on its defensive rotations. Whether it's stopping penetration, closing out on shooters or rotating over in help-side defense, the entirety of the Thunder’s defense will be tested.

“You have to always have second or third efforts. That’s what this series, I think, will be about,” Collison said.

Harden and Brooks also talked about getting out into transition in order to prevent the Spurs’ defense from getting set up in the half court. The Thunder used 30 fast-break points to win Game 5 against the Lakers, and hopes to do the same in Game 1 against San Antonio on Sunday.

“That’s one of the strengths of this team, we have so many guys that can push the ball in transition and make plays, it’s unbelievable," Harden said. "We just have to rebound.”
