Oklahomans regularly flood the streets of Bricktown to rally the Thunder, but on Sunday night Oklahoma City showed its full support to Kevin Durant for an off-the-court project.
Since the Thunder arrived in Oklahoma City, its players have set the standards for performance.
On Saturday, General Manager Sam Presti announced that one of its core players who helped define the work ethic the Thunder operates under on a daily basis, Serge Ibaka, will remain with the team for the foreseeable future thanks to a contract extension. The fourth-year forward who is originally from the Republic of Congo and the Thunder agreed to terms on Saturday, helping solidify the team’s core for the next few years.
OKLAHOMA CITY, August 18, 2012 – The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed forward Serge Ibaka to a multi-year extension, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
When the Thunder reports for training camp in October, the squad will have three Olympic Gold Medal winners and a Silver Medal winner as well.
Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden all helped the United States win the Gold in London, staving off a tough Spain team in the Gold Medal game, which featured the Silver Medal-winning Serge Ibaka. The four Thunder standouts, along with trainer Joe Sharpe each made an impact during the eight Olympic games they played. The USA trio led the Americans to an 8-0 record, and Ibaka’s Spanish side went 5-3.

It’s good to know that I can put some smiles on some kids faces and give back a little bit. I had a lot of fun out there though, especially playing five-on-five. It was probably the most fun I’ve had playing pickup with some kids. It’s real enjoyable and it’s a good experience.
