SEATTLE - The Seattle SuperSonics announced today they have acquired forward Chris Wilcox from the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for forward Vladimir Radmanovic.
"In Chris, we get a great rebounder who can run the floor," said Sonics General Manager Rick Sund. "He has a powerful and quick jump shot and will be a nice complement to our frontcourt as both an additional scoring option and as a defensive presence."
Wilcox has averaged 4.5 points and 3.6 rebounds in 48 games with the Clippers this season while shooting a career-best 53.6 percent from the field. The 6-10 forward ranks 14th in the NBA averaging 9.3 defensive rebounds per 48 minutes. Wilcox is one of just four NBA players currently shooting 50 percent from the field who has also topped that mark in each of the last three seasons.
"With limited minutes, Wilcox has shown he has the ability to be a solid player," said Sonics Head Coach Bob Hill. "I’m looking forward to him continuing to develop his game here with us and to start learning our system."
Originally selected by the Clippers with the eighth overall pick of the 2002 NBA Draft, Wilcox is now in his fourth NBA season. The 23-year-old holds career averages of 6.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 16.3 minutes in 213 games.
The former Maryland standout averaged 7.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per game in his two years with the Terrapins. Wilcox and his Maryland team reached the NCAA Final Four in his freshman season before he helped the Terrapins to a NCAA Championship a year later. Wilcox earned Third Team All-ACC honors during his sophomore season.
Radmanovic, also in his fourth NBA season, holds career averages of 10.1 points, 1.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 26.3 minutes in 320 games. He registered 9.3 points, 1.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 47 appearances this season with the Sonics. Radmanovic was originally selected by Seattle in the first round (12th pick overall) of the 2001 NBA Draft.
