Thunder to Participate in USA Basketball Mini-Camp

OKLAHOMA CITY, June 25, 2009 – Oklahoma City Thunder forwards Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, guard Russell Westbrook and Head Athletic Trainer Joe Sharpe have all been invited to participate in the 2009 USA Basketball Men’s National Team mini-camp it was announced today by USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo.

“We are pleased to have members of our organization contributing to the efforts and goals of USA Basketball,” said Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti. “This is another opportunity for our players and staff to gain experience and continue their development. We are grateful for the opportunity that USA Basketball has presented to the Thunder.”

The USA Basketball Men’s National Team mini-camp will feature practice sessions on July 23 and July 24 at Valley High School in Las Vegas. The mini-camp will be capped by the USA Basketball Showcase, a Blue-White intra-squad game, on Saturday, July 25, 7 P.M. (PDT) at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of UNLV.

Durant, who was named to the 33-man USA Basketball Men’s Senior National Team program on May 23, 2007, was also a member of the USA Basketball Select Team in 2008. Additionally, he was a member of the USA Basketball National Team program in 2007. Durant appeared in the 2006 Nike Hoop Summit and the 2007 State Farm USA Basketball Challenge on behalf of USA Basketball.

Green will also make his third straight appearance in USA Basketball’s summer program. Green was a member of the 2007 and 2008 USA Basketball Select Teams that helped prepare the USA Basketball Men’s Senior National Team for Olympic qualifying and the 2008 Olympic Games.

Westbrook is making his second appearance in USA Basketball’s summer program. The 6-4 guard was a member of the 2008 USA Basketball Select Team that trained with and scrimmaged against the 2008 USA Basketball Men’s Olympic Team.

This will mark Sharpe’s third stint as a trainer for the USA Basketball National Team program. In his most recent role with USA Basketball, Sharpe served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the 2008 USA Basketball U-18 team that captured the silver medal at last years FIBA U18 Championships in Formosa, Argentina. Sharpe also worked with the Men’s Junior National Team in 2002.
