Thunder to Play in Vegas Summer League
Aug 20 2009 4:43PM
The Thunder will be one of 21 teams to participate in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, as the league announced participants and schedules on Monday.
The league, which will run from July 10-19, is presented by EA Sports and will be held on the campus of UNLV.
The Thunder will play five games in that span, starting on July 12 against the Memphis Grizzlies, owners of the No. 2 pick in the June 25 NBA Draft.
Oklahoma City will also play the newly crowned NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers on July 14, the San Antonio Spurs on the following day, the Chicago Bulls on July 17 and will close its schedule against the Dallas Mavericks on July 18.
During his end-of-the-season interview with the media, Thunder General Manager Sam Presti said that rookies D.J. White and Kyle Weaver, along with point guard Shaun Livingston and international prospects DeVon Hardin and Serge Ibaka will represent Oklahoma City in Las Vegas. Point guard Russell Westbrook was expected to play in the Orlando Summer League but not Las Vegas. Should the Thunder use its No. 3 and No. 25 picks in this year's draft, those players are also expected to join the summer league team.
Still, neither a roster nor a coaching staff had been officially announced as of Monday.
The Vegas Summer League features recent draft picks, first- and second-year players, free agents and players coming off injuries.
