Thunder Launches Summer Reading Club

OKLAHOMA CITY, Thursday, August 6, 2009 – The Oklahoma City Thunder and American Fidelity Assurance Company, in cooperation with the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Library System, have launched the Thunder Summer Reading Club.

Children ages 6-18 were given two goals this summer to encourage reading. Nearly 23,000 area youth and teens signed up for the Summer Reading Club, and the incentive to get to a Thunder game this season has encouraged the children to reach the ultimate goal. The first goal is to read or listen to eight books, read eight hours or 800 pages to receive a reading ribbon. However, if any of the children in the program read or listen to an additional eight books, read and additional hours or an additional 800 pages, they will receive a special ticket offer to a Thunder game.

There are 17 metropolitan libraries hosting the Thunder Summer Reading Club. With the Thunder’s involvement this season, there are 5,000 more area youth signed up for the program.
