Thunder Basketball Returns to Sports Animal Tulsa

Oklahoma City, Friday, July 22, 2016 – Oklahoma City Thunder radio game broadcasts will return to KYAL-FM (97.1 FM) The Sports Animal in Tulsa beginning with the 2016-17 NBA season, it was announced today by the Thunder and Stephens Family LP of Tulsa.

"We are thrilled to return to the Sports Animal in Tulsa where our game broadcasts were heard for our first five years. It provides us a broad radio reach throughout northeastern Oklahoma, where we have a loyal and passionate fan base," said Dan Mahoney, vice president of Broadcasting for the Thunder. "Via our flagship station, The Sports Animal in Oklahoma City, and our affiliates we are able to cover the state with Thunder Basketball on the radio."

In addition to being broadcast on KYAL-FM in Tulsa/Muskogee, the games will also appear in eastern Oklahoma on KITO-FM (96.1) The Sports Animal in Vinita, also owned by Stephens Family LP.

“We welcome the return of Thunder basketball to 97.1 FM The Sports Animal Tulsa and, with our station’s oversized coverage area, look forward to bringing the games to most of eastern Oklahoma,” said David Stephens, owner of The Sports Animal Tulsa.

Stephens and the Thunder also announced that KVSO (AM) in Ardmore will begin carrying Thunder game broadcasts. It brings to 15 the total number of stations within the Thunder Radio Network, which covers Oklahoma and parts of southern Kansas. The Thunder Radio Network carries all preseason, regular-season and postseason Thunder games. Veteran sportscaster Matt Pinto is set to begin his ninth season handling radio play-by-play duties for the Thunder.
