A Look At: Hasheem Thabeet
Jun 18 2009 6:48PM
Each day, THUNDER.NBA.COM will take a look at one of the top prospects in the June 25th NBA Draft.
Today, we’ll take a look at Connecticut center Hasheem Thabeet.
The Skinny:
Center
7’3”
265 lbs.
The Tanzanian native has great height and wingspan that many feel will benefit him as a defender at the NBA level. And while his strength is on the defensive end, many feel he has an upside offensively. He's athletic, skilled and has good foot speed for a player his size.
Thabeet averaged 13.6 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.2 blocks a game during his junior season at the University of Connecticut. He was named Co-Big East Player of the Year alongside Pitt's DeJuan Blair, and is a two-time Big East Defensive Player of the Year award winner. Thabeet recorded 415 career blocks and tied the Connecticut single-game record for blocks in a game (10) three times.
MORE ABOUT HASHEEM
In a story filled with anecdotes about Thabeet's childhood and college days, ESPN.com's Rick Reilly wrote a witty piece on the UConn big man....Back in 2006, Sports Illustrated had a great story on how Thabeet left his homeland for the United States and eventually became a cult figure on the campus of the University of Connecticut....And not even two years later, SI.com did another story on how Thabeet put Tanzania on the hoops map.
