SuperFly

"SuperFly" brings Sonics fans all that was seen and overheard from his spot on the wall in Sonics land.

Britney Spears on the Sonics' dance team?
Final acquisition ... Looks like the Sonics aren't tipping their entire hand before opening night. SuperFly got word of a new acquisition to the squad - Brittany Spears. Sit back down gentleman. After further review, it turns out the new import is not pop-diva "Britney" Spears, but "Brittany" Spears of Bellevue. Spears earned a spot on the Sonics Dance Team that will make its 2001-02 debut Nov. 1 at the Key. Dry your tears fellas, Fly hears the Sonics' Brittany could pass as a Britney impersonator.

Snorkel please ... SuperFly is still seeing double after spending an hour in an industrial dryer at the Sonics training facility. Searching for news and notes to bring home to Sonics fans, Fly was the victim of a water leak that flooded the basement at the team's practice facility. A typical Seattle fall monsoon brought a mini-flashflood into the building, drenching The Furtado Center basement. Rumor has it Jerome James' size 22 kicks were a handy tool in bailing the water back outside.

Grubbin ... Fly is sporting a few extra pounds after pilfering leftovers from the Sonics spread this week at training camp headquarters. You name the nutritious and delicious grub and the Sonics have it on the table: sandwiches, pasta, seafood, dessert, cereal, chicken, salads, fruit, vegetables, breads and all sorts of hydrates. The Sonics players are munching like kings during training camp as the coaching staff tries to fill'em with quality eats while they bust tail during killer two-a-day practices and preseason games. Fly spotted players that refused to eat their veggies running extra lines after practice.

Maharishi McMillan ... Sonics main-man Nate McMillan is setting a course for his team so inspiring that even Fly is packing his bags for the Insect Olympics. Mac-10 is doing everything he can to get his team into the win column this season, including placing reminders for how to achieve success where his team can see them. His most recent move was to have "Expect To Win" painted in large block green and gold letters in the hallway leading in and out of the Sonics locker room at KeyArena. The wall was unveiled to the team just before they took the floor and crushed the Clippers in the first exhibition game of the season. Perhaps Nate is onto something ... when the Lakers come to town Fly will try to paint it on centercourt.

Mini-me ... The Clippers warm up session before their game with the Supes Thursday was quite a sight with 7'0", 270-pound Clips center Michael Olowokandi taking on 5'5", 133-pound Earl Boykins in a pickup game. The seven-footer had his way on the boards, but the little man nailed his jumpers. Olowokandi didn't have as much luck against guys his own size -- Vin Baker, Calvin Booth and Jerome James combined for nine swats and held him to just four points and no blocks in 24 minutes of action. How do you like me now, big guy?

Overheard ... "Vladimir (Radmanovic) smells real bad after a week of practice," said Sonics guard Brent Barry. "And I'm getting tired of Anthony Johnson in practice holding and grabbing me. So it's nice to see different jerseys." Sounds like the preseason rolled around just in time for the surly Supes.
