OKLAHOMA CITY, February 3, 2011 – Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook was named a reserve on the Western Conference All-Star Team the NBA announced today.
The third-year guard joins teammate Kevin Durant on the 2011 Western Conference squad, marking the first time the franchise has had a pair of All-Stars since Gary Payton and Vin Baker in 1998. This season, Westbrook is averaging 22.4 points (14th in NBA), 8.5 assists (8th in NBA), 5.1 rebounds, 1.9 steals (4th in NBA) and 36.1 minutes in 48 games (all starts).
The Los Angeles, CA, native is currently the only player in the NBA averaging 22-plus points, 5-plus rebounds and 8-plus assists. Westbrook has recorded 23 double-doubles and three triple-doubles (T-1st in NBA). Additionally, he is just one of three players who has been named Western Conference Player of the Week multiple times.
The 60th NBA All-Star Game will be played at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, marking the fifth time The City of Angels and the second time STAPLES Center will be the site of the annual celebration. STAPLES Center last played host to NBA All-Star in 2004, and L.A. also hosted the All-Star Game in 1963, 1972, and 1983.
