OKLAHOMA CITY, Thursday, March 17 - The Oklahoma City Thunder announced today its plans to support the Oklahoma wildfire relief efforts. During Friday’s game versus the Charlotte Bobcats, fans can bid on Thunder-autographed items or purchase a $5 raffle ticket for the chance to win a team-autographed Thunder basketball.
The auction and raffle will be open through the third quarter outside Section 111 on the concourse. Auction items include an autographed Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook All-Star jersey. Proceeds benefit the American Red Cross of Central Oklahoma’s Disaster Relief Fund.
"Our thoughts are with all the Oklahomans who have suffered due to last week’s wildfires. We hope Friday’s proceeds can assist with some of the destruction and losses," said Thunder Vice President of Community Relations Dan Mahoney. "This is chance for the entire Thunder family to help the victims and support the relief efforts."
In addition to Friday’s efforts, the team will also honor its March Devon Community Hero, Vickie Optiz, who lost her animal rescue facility, OK Adopt A Dog, in the wildfires. Optiz was forced to transport or release two dozen rescued dogs, but managed to save all of them in the fire. Her facility was established in Harrah, Okla. nearly five years ago. Optiz will be presented with the award during pregame on Friday’s game. About the Devon Community Hero Created in 2008, the Devon Community Hero Award, presented by the Thunder, is designed to honor outstanding Oklahomans who are making a significant difference in their community through their personal contributions of time, talent and/or finances. The program strives to recognize a wide diversity of people, from well-known Oklahomans to everyday heroes, highlighting the unique contributions they’ve made.
