Thunder, Sprite Complete Refurbishment of OKC Court
Thunder players scheduled to help dedicate new court at Pitts Park on Friday
Oklahoma City, Wednesday, Oct. 24 – The Oklahoma City Thunder and Sprite will dedicate the newly refurbished Pitts Park Community Center outdoor basketball court in northeast Oklahoma City on Friday. The project is a partnership between the Sprite Spark Parks Project and the Thunder Cares Foundation, benefitting the City of Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department.
As part of the $21,000 renovation, the Pitts Park Community Center now has a new Thunder blue court with Thunder and NBA logos, plus new backboards, goals, benches and other improvements. Several Thunder players will join children from the Pitts Park neighborhood on Friday to dedicate the new court.
“It’s our honor and pleasure to participate in this project, bringing a new basketball experience to the Pitts Park neighborhood,” said Dan Mahoney, Thunder vice president of Community Relations. “We enjoy the opportunity to further the love of basketball and physical fitness in Oklahoma City. We especially thank Sprite for its commitment to the community. We are proud to have them as a valuable corporate and community partner of the Thunder.”
“The mission of the Sprite Spark Parks Project is to positively impact the Oklahoma community and refresh neighborhood basketball courts so youth can express their uncontainable moves in a safe, public space," said Rickey Truelove, vice president of Marketing at Great Plains Coca-Cola. “A public park is one of the best places for kids and teens to go to be physically active, improve their health and wellness and have fun. We are proud to partner with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Homeland to spark new life into this active public space.”
This is the third court refurbishment the Thunder and its Thunder Cares Foundation have completed. The outdoor court at the Police Athletic League in south Oklahoma City and the indoor court at the City Rescue Mission both received Thunder facelifts. Community court refurbishments are a key mission of the Thunder Cares Foundation.
