L.A. CLIPPERS COACH
MIKE DUNLEAVY:
On the game:
I was pleased by the way we played. I thought our guys played hard. We did a lot of good things defensively and had a lot of deflections. They (Seattle) are a good team. They were draining threes on us. We withstood it and made some good plays down the stretch and got us a good win. A lot of players put in some good minutes tonight.
On Clippers rookie
Daniel Ewing's performance:
He has been terrific. He’s gotten better with each game and showed a lot of poise. He’s been willing to take big shots and he’s made big shots. Defensively, he’s been pretty good and made a lot of key plays.
On training-camp invitee
Boniface Ndong:
He played well, he had a good game. He missed some shots he probably could have made. He’s a good shooter. He has length. I thought he played well.
On where the Clippers are at:
I am extremely pleased with the chemistry of the group. They played really hard and played together. I think that they’re pretty well focused. I think they did a good job in areas that I wanted to focus on. One of those areas is turnovers and we’ve done a pretty good job of taking care of the basketball. Defensively we’ve been pretty decent, we’ve worked hard, we made mistakes, but at this point in time in the season, I think we’ve been decent. We’ve accomplished some good things in the preseason, now we have to hold on to it.
On the Clippers preseason record:
You always like winning. 6-2 is a nice preseason record. I thought our guys played well. It’s interesting. I think there’s a lot of situations where our younger guys had a chance to play against frontline players at the end of games and I think that was very positive for them. They played against legitimate starting NBA players and to finish a game out against them is a good thing, it gives them confidence.
GUARD
SAM CASSELL:
On the Clippers preseason:
I'm very impressed with what we did. I like the chemistry that is developing on this team. When we lose, it should hurt. It's always the regular season with this ball club. We have some new players in here -
Cuttino (Mobley),
Walter McCarty, and myself, we just have to fit in.
On the game:
We can't let
Elton Brand be a 15-rebound guy, we need to get more group rebounds. We have to stretch the defense, and open up a box to work with. I'm happy with where we are right now, and we played solid.
On his relationship with Coach Dunleavy:
We need to stay in the concept with what Mike wants us to do. Mike has given me a lot of leeway to run this team; substitutions, plays I want to call, Coach allows me to do that because he has a lot of confidence in me. Not a lot of coaches allow players to do that.
