SONICS COACH
NATE MCMILLAN:
On the game:
On the offensive end, we had 17 turnovers for 22 points. The shot selection on the offensive end led to easy baskets and mismatches. When we did get back on the defensive end, we didn’t do a good job of containing the ball.
On
Manu Ginobili's performance:
He was 9-for-11 shooting and 8-of-10 on free throws. We didn’t do a good job on him. Both of them love to go to the basket. I thought we did a better job on
Tony Parker, but Ginobili got loose. You can’t stop just one guy.
On Games 3 and 4:
They won the first two in S.A., now we go home and play in front of our home crowd. We still have an opportunity. They still have to win two more. We’ll make some more adjustments and hopefully get this thing right Thursday.
CENTER
JEROME JAMES:
On the first quarter:
They scored 28 points in the first quarter and we scored 16. We played even ball for the next three quarters, but you can’t start out like we did. We need to score the ball better.
On the Spurs:
This team is not Sacramento. This team is a much more defensive-minded team.
GUARD
ANTONIO DANIELS:
On the game:
It was a frustrating game. We were right there for the entire game but could never get the stops we needed.
On the Sonics ball movement:
We have to try our best to move the ball. We know we are better when we pass and move the ball better.
On
Ray Allen's performance:
Ray showed a lot of heart going out and playing how he did tonight. I take my hat off to him, he showed a lot of heart and pride.
FORWARD
NICK COLLISON:
On the first quarter:
I think we came out with more intensity. We came out harder, but still managed to be down 12 points in the first quarter. We need better starts.
On Allen:
He played well tonight. We knew he would. He tweaked his ankle last game, but he came out and got Bruce Bowen in foul trouble and that helped.
On the Spurs offense:
There are a lot of things. Their guards scored in the paint, the bigs, and they scored in transition. There’s a lot to stop.
SAN ANTONIO COACH
GREGG POPOVICH:
On the game:
It was a good win for us. Obviously any win the playoffs is a good win. We played well as a team defensively. A lot of people took challenges. Overall, our team defense gave us an opportunity to win.
On the Sonics offense:
Ray Allen and
Rashard Lewis are fantastic players and there is no way to stop either one. You just try to limit them as much as you can.
On Parker:
Tony Parker really was the consummate point guard tonight. He took what was given. He called a good game on the court. He did a very good job getting us organized.
On defending the perimeter:
We don’t want to give up a lot of 3s against this team. It’s better to not give up 3s than to give up open 3s.
FORWARD
TIM DUNCAN:
On the game:
I think the key to our game is on the defensive end. We’re doing a good job of contesting shots. We’re doing a great job of getting back in front of people. I thought they got too many offensive rebounds and second-chance points tonight. We need to clean that up for the next game, but all in all, defensively, that’s where we’re going to win games.
On Ginobili:
I don’t really know what he does. He just kind of puts his head down and we pray for the best.
On going up 2-0 in the series:
It’s a lot more comforting. They’re a very good team at home; they use the crowd. They’re very confident there. We’re going to have to play very well to beat them there. It’s great having this home court and having this lead going into this third game.
GUARD TONY PARKER:
On the Spurs offense:
We are lucky to all be so unselfish, share the ball and find our open teammates. We move the ball and wait for our turn to make plays..
FORWARD
ROBERT HORRY:
On the game:
I think that the way we played tonight was great. Tim, Tony and Manu are playing well. Tonight Seattle keyed on Tony, so that made it easier for Manu to get easy baskets, and that helps us as a team.
CENTER
NAZR MOHAMMED:
On the start of the second half:
We definitely wanted to play better at the beginning of the second half than we did last game. We didn’t play as well as we could have at the beginning of the third quarter in game one and we wanted to come out of the half and play better tonight.
On the Spurs defense:
Manu and
Brent (Barry) did a great job and I tip my hat to all of my teammates on the defensive end of the ball. Defense is our thing and my teammates did a great job tonight.
FORWARD
BRUCE BOWEN:
On his foul trouble:
The referees don’t read the papers. It was unfortunate that I got so many fouls. I don’t think that I did too much where I was over aggressive. I will just slide my feet harder and move my hands faster so that it makes it that much tougher for my opponent next time.
On the Sonics fouls:
I think that some of the fouls that Jerome James committed against Manu were a bit overaggressive. Manu hung in there though, played tough and hit his free throws.
