SONICS COACH NATE MCMILLAN:
On the game:
Both teams battled tonight. Sacramento is such a good team it took everything we had to stop those guys. They shot the ball well and we made plays in the fourth quarter to tie the game, and eventually get control. It came down to who would make the plays. I thought Nick (Collison) made some big plays late in the ballgame on second opportunities. When they’d miss, we made some big shots. Tonight two teams played very solid basketball with not a lot of turnovers. Both teams were pretty efficient with their offenses and both teams were hard to stop, and it came down to just a few plays.
On the Sonics All-Stars making All-Star plays:
They played big again tonight. We need those guys to bring that kind of effort on both ends of the floor. But tonight our bench came through. Antonio (Daniels) got off to a slow start in the first half but made some big plays in the second half. Nick guarding (Chris) Webber, making him work and being aggressive on the boards. All season long we’ve needed our bench to come through and tonight they did.
On Danny Fortson's ejection:
Danny got ejected, but I thought we fed off that. We started to get aggressive and we played with an attitude. We played mad, but we played under control and smart. At this time of the season, these games require that type of play. You don’t want to see guys ejected like that, but I think our guys responded to Danny’s physical and aggressive play. It got the crowd into the game and got us fired up. We responded after that.
GUARD LUKE RIDNOUR:
On the game:
We’ve been working on execution and getting the ball in the right guy’s hands at the right time. Rashard (Lewis) and A.D. (Daniels) made big plays at the end. We’ve got a bunch of guys who can score and it makes us a tough team to guard.
On Collison:
That was the best I’ve seen him play. He’s aggressive and he gets rebounds and he’s got great hands. That was a great game for him.
On the intensity of the game:
Danny really changed the game. He sparked everything and got everyone going. After that incident, everyone stepped their game up and that’s how we go the win.
GUARD ANTONIO DANIELS:
On Fortson's ejection:
That changed the whole momentum of the game. It got both teams into the game. That’s the type of person Danny is. He’s the type of guy who is going to do whatever he has to do to help the team out. Right there he felt like we needed an edge and needed something to put us over that hump. He did what he did and we responded the right way.
SACRAMENTO COACH RICK ADELMAN:
On the game:
We didn’t do enough, we turned it over in crucial times. You don’t win on the road like that. You can’t turn it over. We had control of the game and we turned it over, and they scored quickly on us, and now it’s anybody’s game. When we did get stops, they got the ball back. Those are things, in the last four or five minutes of the game, you’ve got to do, and we didn’t do it. It’s something we got to talk about. We’ve got to do a better job.
On the Sonics 38-point fourth quarter:
They got a lot of offensive rebounds again. We turned it over and they scored. They are a good offensive team. We just didn’t do enough.
On Collison:
He did a great job on the boards. He got three or four offensive rebounds. That was huge for them. They got the ball back, and when they got the ball back, they probably scored every time, so it was big, no doubt about it.
On Fortson's ejection:
How many exchanges has Fortson had this year? That’s enough said. I mean, it happens every game.
On Seattle's play after Fortson was ejected:
They had a better team on the floor. They did, they had a better offensive team. When he went out, now they got Lewis and (Vladimir) Radmanovic and the two guards, I mean, they are a hard team to guard then. So, I don’t think it was him inspiring them, I think just that is their best team that they had out there.
On the Kings:
We have a different team than we had before. We’ve had a lot of injuries. We’ve lost a couple tough games, that’s the way the NBA is.
FORWARD CHRIS WEBBER:
On the Kings losing streak:
We’ve lost three in a row and that’s tough. We’ve just got to fight through it, fight through injuries, sometimes you are just at that point in the season.
On the game:
It was a good game, great environment, playoff atmosphere, hostile environment. They played good and we lost. I love playing in those type of environments. When you get booed, it’s the most respect you can get. Just because it looks like some things are getting to me, it’s really not. I just use that as an incentive to play well. Foul trouble hurt. We moved the ball pretty well, but we still didn’t win. That’s the bottom line.
