SONICS COACH NATE MCMILLAN:
On the game:
I thought we didn’t defend at all in the first half. I thought we made bad reads, we didn’t do a good job of communicating out on the floor, and we gave up 52 points. The second half, we showed that if we played defense we could stop the ball and gave up 32 points. The first half we just didn’t do a good job of executing the game plan, plus the second half we started to defend and were able to get control of the game. And then offensively we had a few guys knock down some shots and I think that starts at the defensive end of the floor.
On Ronald "Flip" Murray's performance:
I thought Ronald played well. We needed a lift from the team tonight and he came in and got minutes. I thought he was aggressive and defensively was involved in the game. Offensively, when he has it going and he’s knocking down some shots, it’s hard to stop him. With minutes, he showed he can do some things. But I like the effort he gave at the defensive end of the floor. I thought that was big key to him staying out there and whenever you defend, I think you play better at the offensive end of the floor. Tonight he had some mismatches that we tried to take advantage of and he made some real nice plays.
On playing with three guards most of the night:
We knew that they would have a tough match up at one of the positions, wherever (Mike) Dunleavy was. We were going to try to make him work defensively if he was guarding Ray (Allen) and run Ray off screens. If they put him on one of our guards, A.D. (Antonio Daniels), we were going to involve him in the pick-and-roll. That was part of my game plan to really make him work defensively and the second half Ronald had some match-ups with him and made him work.
GUARD ANTONIO DANIELS:
On his role:
I’m a point guard, that’s the easiest way I can put it. I’m a point guard, that’s what I do. I have a pass first mentality, and sometimes that works against me. I can’t change who I am or who I’ve been for the majority of my career. I have to go out and play. If I have the opportunity to make something happen, I’m going to make something happen, whether it’s for myself or for my teammates.
GUARD RAY ALLEN:
On the game:
We were a little passive defensively early, we weren’t alert and they were scoring easy.
On Luke Ridnour's play:
He made it look easy. He made the simple play. He took the shot when he had it and he moved without the ball and we found him and that made the offense work how it was supposed to go.
GOLDEN STATE COACH MIKE MONTGOMERY:
On the game:
I think we got tired. I think in this particular instance we got tired. Our bench kind of let us down tonight. I think we got outscored 47 to nine off the bench. They were actually getting better as they were bringing people off the bench. We were kind of relying on Speedy (Claxton) to carry the whole load. That is not fair to him.
On his team:
We just have to play with a certain level of energy and when we don’t, it’s just not gonna happen for us. (Danny) Fortson came in a pushed us around. He gets 11 rebounds. It’s not a mystery. They were shooting the ball and getting threes. We didn’t have much cooking other than Speedy.
On defending the Sonics:
We had a way to play that we thought was sound. We made several mistakes on that in terms of not doing what we intended to do. I think in almost every instance they were able to get a bucket on that. They’ve got really nice three-point shooters. They do spread the floor and they do find each other pretty well. There were a couple times where we stood there and let them shoot it right in our face.
On the Sonics:
They are good. There’s a reason they are good. There is no question that they play pretty well together and they have a deep bench.
FORWARD MIKE DUNLEAVY:
On the play down low:
They have some guys in there that go into the game to just get rebounds and play defense. They are not getting the ball unless it’s off a shot. They are obviously going to go all out and do whatever they can. You know, scrap, crawl, grab and all that. They do a really good job of that.
On the game:
They made more shots and they just outplayed us. You know, there isn’t any real secret to it.
GUARD SPEEDY CLAXTON:
On his game:
I was just trying to get the ball in my hands and make something happen.
I kind of just had the hot hand. I was getting to the basket easily so I guess that the only thing they can do is just look at me.
On the second half:
We got broken down a lot in the second half. I think we were just really sluggish in the second half.
