Sonics (5-1) 88, Toronto (4-2) 87

SONICS COACH NATE MCMILLAN:

On Antonio Daniels' game-winning shot:
We need guys to step up and make those plays because teams are going to try to take Ray (Allen) out of the game. He did.

On Allen fouling out of the game:
That’s part of the game, like injuries, and we have to play on. Defensively, we needed to make some stops. Offensively, we stopped moving the ball and we started playing on just one side of the floor. We needed more ball movement, but we needed guys to make plays. AD made some big shots in the fourth quarter for us.

On the KeyArena crowd:
It’s nice to play these types of games and come out with a W, not only for the team but for the fans. We’re playing good basketball; we’re scrappy for 48 minutes. I didn’t see any quit in these guys tonight. We found a way to win a tough game against a tough team. Toronto is a tough team.

On Reggie Evans pulling down 16 rebounds:
He’s been doing that for us all season long. Preseason is where it started and he was rewarded with a starting position. Those were big for us. Rebounding has been an issue for our team and he’s getting extra offensive possessions for our team. When we need some defensive boards, he’s finding a way to come up with them.

GUARD ANTONIO DANIELS:

On the game:
We played great as a team. It was a test. We didn’t shoot the ball well, but we’ve been saying from day one that it will show a lot about the team when we don’t shoot the ball well. Tonight we responded very well, especially on the defensive end. We forced them into some tough shots, making it tough on them. We won that game on the defensive end of the floor.

On the game-winning shot:
The play was drawn up for Rashard (Lewis) to get the ball on the block, but he (McMillan) told me if I saw an opportunity to take advantage of it. They both went with Rashard so I had an opportunity so I put it up there.

GUARD LUKE RIDNOUR:

On the game:
It was a good finish for us with our main guy out; just to be able to win feels good.

On getting defensive stops down the stretch:
It was huge. We’ve been doing that the last four games, getting stops. We really focused in and collapsed when they were penetrating.

On the Raptors:
Toronto is a good team. They know what we run and we were able to hit some shots at the end. That’s all it came down to.

FORWARD VLADIMIR RADMANOVIC:

On the game:
We didn’t give up. We lost our best player, but we found a way to score. AD and Rashard did a great job in the last minute of the game.

TORONTO COACH SAM MITCHELL:

On the game:
The guys on the floor fought back and we had a chance to win. We just didn’t get it done again. It was a tale of two halves, but I’m kind of getting tired of the way we are starting the game. It’s not making me happy. It’s the people that are starting the game, and if we have to make some changes in the starting lineup then that’s what we’re going to do.

On determining playing time:
The guys that do the things that we ask them to do offensively and defensively are going to find minutes. The guys that are doing the things that they want to do are just not going to play because we are going to lose anyway and they don’t understand that.

On what his team was doing wrong:
We played good defense the whole game, but we just wouldn’t pass the ball to each other to start the game. That’s what digs a hole. We are going to find some guys in that room that are going to play some team basketball. The guys that are not going to play team basketball are not going to play.

I do know one thing, if they do it their way, we’re going to lose and if I don’t do it my way, I’m going to get fired. If I’m going to get fired then I’m going to get fired doing it my way.

FORWARD CHRIS BOSH:

On the last play:
I guess it just got a little congested down there. I didn’t have time to come all the way to the ball. If I’m not open then we should get the ball to Vince (Carter) and let him make a play in the weak side.

On starting slowly:
That was a factor in this game. If we set the tone early in the game for how we play instead of digging a hole and trying to climb out of, it gives us a little more momentum. We can then play a little bit better down the stretch and hopefully have a lead down the stretch.

FORWARD VINCE CARTER:

On his performance:
I think I let the team down. I had a couple of plays that I wasn’t ready to shoot. I got uncomfortable and got the bumping call, things like that. I feel in my mind that I hurt the team, but the great thing is that we have a game tomorrow.
