Sonics (4-1) 108, Sacramento (1-4) 78

SONICS COACH NATE MCMILLAN:
On what the Sonics are doing well during their winning streak:
It’s been a total team effort (these last four games). I think we’re pretty consistent with what we do throughout the game. There hasn’t been a drop-off with our substitutions; our bench has come in and given us some good minutes. We’ve been solid defensively for all four quarters making teams try to earn their baskets - strong on the boards, aggressive with the ball, and a lot of ball movement. There hasn’t been a drop-off when we’ve substituted.
On Danny Fortson becoming a fan favorite:
They seem to like Danny - his play, his intensity. He’s coming in with that second unit and 21 minutes, 13 boards, nine offensive boards. He’s giving us extra possessions when he’s coming in there.
On the Sonics effort:
I think they all are playing hard from the starting unit to the second unit. Our second unit guys are ready to play when they come into the game and these last four games there hasn’t been a drop-off in the level of play.
GUARD ANTONIO DANIELS:
On the Sonics:
This team is a little bit more mature and you can see it - the way that we’re playing, the way that we’re handling situations out there. It’s great to have a force like Danny - somebody who doesn’t quit. He gives you two, three, four opportunities. That’s huge.
On what the Sonics are doing well:
We’re playing defense, and our defense is generating a lot of our offense. Teams are missing and we’re running out. It’s difficult to run the ball like we want to when we’re taking the ball out of the net.
Guys are working hard. Ray (Allen) is working hard. Rashard (Lewis) is really working his tail off. And Vladimir (Radmanovic). They really make it difficult for guys that they’re guarding to score. When you have your leaders that are stepping up and scoring like that, that’s huge.
FORWARD DANNY FORTSON:
On his game:
That’s how I play. Nothing exciting, just go out there and rebound and set picks. If I do that, it gets my teammates open and we have good shooters on this team. That’s what I’m here to do.
On his physical play:
Those guys play physical too. You might not see as much as (with) me, but they play physical too. I caught some elbows tonight, but I’m not crying and complaining. Basically it’s equal. It’s equal out there.
On whether the Sonics are sending a message:
I think so. We’re playing hard and we realize that if we play hard we can win games. No matter where they have us ranked. We go out there and play hard and handle business. We got the win and that’s all that matters.
SACRAMENTO COACH RICK ADELMAN:
On the game:
We were so poor offensively, it’s hard to imagine. We had like four assists and shot 20-something percent on the first half. We never went past one pass, we never really had any energy or quickness and we were down 14 at halftime. In the third quarter we cut it down a little bit to 8, but it just wasn’t there all night. We have to come with a better effort.
On the Sonics:
We talked about how this team plays very well at home and they’ve been playing well and there are just no excuses at all.
On the Sonics physical play:
If they want to knock people down and they want to do all that stuff and call it toughness than so be it. That had nothing to do with the way we played. If anything, they were the aggressors and they had a lot of offensive rebounds, but it was mostly our doing.
On the Kings effort:
We took the first three that was there and we didn’t make anything early. I thought we missed a lot of wide open shots. As the half went on we didn’t make them work to guard us. We didn’t run any hard cuts and it was really disappointing. In this conference, when you play on the road, you’ve better be better than that offensively.
FORWARD CHRIS WEBBER:
On the Sonics:
Fortson brings a physical presence to them and (Reggie) Evans already plays physical. I would say that they are the same team but when you have time to play together you get better.
CENTER BRAD MILLER:
On the Sonics style of play :
They were just grabbing and holding. Not even trying to set picks or nothing. It was just blatantly grabbing. It gets frustrating because when you play the game you don’t teach people to grab and hold all the time but that’s what they were doing tonight. I should have reacted to it better.
It’s not physical … I mean Danny Fortson is physical but the way Reggie Evans was playing, that’s not physical. It’s just grabbing and holding and pushing and shoving and hoping that they don’t call it.
