Team’s Public Outreach Departments in Place
OKLAHOMA CITY, Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008 – The Oklahoma City Thunder announced Christine Berney as the Director of Community Relations today. Berney joins the team from the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber with an extensive background in corporate and nonprofit community relations. Berney will oversee the Thunder's community relations department which includes management and coordination of all community programming. Her staff includes Community Programming Manager Wyjuana Montgomery, who relocated with the team from Seattle, Community Relations Coordinator Steve Davis and Community Relations Coordinator Macay McComas, both hired in Oklahoma City. McComas will join the team in late October. "The Thunder pledges to give back to the Oklahoma community," Vice President of Corporate Communications and Community Relations Dan Mahoney said. "In a multitude of ways, the Thunder will support, create and implement a variety of initiatives that enrich the quality of life in Oklahoma." Mahoney leads the Thunder’s three public outreach departments: corporate communications, community relations and the Thunder's website, thunder.nba.com. Mahoney served as director of communications for Oklahoma Governor Frank Keating from 1995-2003. He has been a public relations consultant for the Professional Basketball Club, LLC since 2006. The Corporate Communications staff includes Director of Corporate Communications Tom Savage and Corporate Communications Manager Vicki Guerra. The team's website is produced and managed by Director of Digital Media and Publications Ron Matthews and Web Producer Tony Nhoksayakham. The Thunder's Opening Night is October 29 vs. the Milwaukee Bucks at the Ford Center. Single-game tickets will be available in October.
