Ibaka Named to Rookie Challenge and Youth Jam

OKLAHOMA CITY, February 1, 2011 – Oklahoma City Thunder forward/center Serge Ibaka was among the 18 players selected for the 2011 T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam to be held on Friday, Feb. 18 at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles during NBA All-Star 2011.

The participants in the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam were selected by the NBA’s assistant coaches, with each team submitting one ballot.

Joining Ibaka on the sophomore team are San Antonio Spurs center DeJuan Blair, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Toronto Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan, Sacramento Kings guard Tyreke Evans, Chicago Bulls forward Taj Gibson, Philadelphia 76ers guard Jrue Holiday, Milwaukee Bucks guard Brandon Jennings, and Portland Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews.

This season, Ibaka is averaging 9.6 points while shooting 56.2 percent from the field (7th in the NBA), 6.7 rebounds, 2.0 blocks (6th in NBA) and 25.5 minutes in 47 games (18 starts). The Brazzaville, Democratic Republic Congo native was selected 24th overall by Oklahoma City franchise in the 2008 NBA Draft.
