Jun 17 2009 1:23PM
Each day THUNDER.NBA.COM will take a look at one of the top draft prospects in the June 25 NBA Draft.
Today, we’ll take a look at Memphis guard Tyreke Evans.
THE SKINNY
Guard
6'5"
195 lbs.
Evans was a highly-touted guard out of Chester, Pa., who impacted the Memphis Tigers in just one season on campus as one of the nation's most talented freshman. Evans faced an ample amount of pressure from day one as he had to take over for point guard Derrick Rose, who was the No. 1 pick of the 2008 NBA Draft. Evans primarily played point guard at Memphis and proved capable of creating his own shot and using his strength to get to and finish at the rim. The crafty Evans thrived with his dribble-drive game and favored more of a fast-pace offense.
The 19-year-old averaged 17.1 points on 45.5% shooting, 5.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game. Evans has close to a seven-foot wingspan, which benefited him on the defensive end.
MORE ABOUT TYREKE
The Memphis Commercial Appeal caught up with Evans at the Draft Combine in Chicago, where he spoke about being recognized by President Barack Obama, among other things....The Washington Post had an article back in March about Evans and his support system, primarily his four brothers who keep him grounded.
