SEATTLE - In a trade today that sent center Kurt Thomas to the San Antonio Spurs, the Seattle SuperSonics acquired San Antonio’s 2009 first-round draft pick, Francisco Elson and Brent Barry.

“We feel very good about the trade that brings us the Spurs 2009 first-round draft pick, Francisco Elson and Brent Barry,” said Sonics General Manager Sam Presti. “In particular, looking at the first-round pick, in combination with our other future picks, we have great flexibility to add to our core or acquire another impact player in the future. At the same time, Kurt is a tremendous person and player, and I appreciate his contributions this season and wish him success.”

Elson has played in 41 games this season with the Spurs where he is averaging 3.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. He was a second round (41st) pick of the 1999 NBA Draft by the Nuggets and has played in 312 NBA games in his NBA career. The 7-0 center is 552-for-1129 (48.9 percent) from the field in his five-year career.
