A Royal Fan

When Nauzi Jagosh decided last year to enter the Love’s Ultimate Thunder Fan contest, the most pressing question concerned what to wear. “I wanted to do something that was more feminine,” Nauzi recalled “So I thought, ‘What was something girly?’”

That’s when an idea hit the 24-year-old, the kind of inspiration that can move mountains, create concertos or, at the very least, lead to a really funky outfit. Nauzi and a friend assembled a costume literally fit for a princess: glitter-laden Thunder jersey, colorful tulle skirt, Thunder earrings and, naturally, a tiara.

The Thunder Princess was born.

“The other Thunder fans thought it was awesome,” she said. “They recognized me as that, called me ‘Princess.’ It just stuck.”

The designation isn’t something Nauzi could have foreseen only a few years ago. A server and bartender for Buffalo Wild Wings, she wasn’t a sports fan in the slightest until the evening of Oct. 29, 2008. That’s when curiosity about Oklahoma City’s new NBA team prompted Nauzi to check out the Thunder’s Opening Night game.

Cue that inspiration we mentioned a few paragraphs ago.

“The city came together for a single thing, versus being OU or OSU,” Nauzi said. “It was the first chance we got to come together as one. It was fun, and the energy was great. So I was, like, ‘I’ll go to a few more games.’

“I ended up going to 26 my first season and became a Season Ticket Member the next.”
