The Seattle SuperSonics exercised their fourth-year team option on forward
Vladimir Radmanovic, Sonics General Manager Rick Sund announced Tuesday. Radmanovic is now signed through the 2004-05 season.
Selected by the Sonics in the first round (12th pick overall) of the 2001 NBA Draft, Radmanovic, 22, averaged 10.1 points and 4.5 rebounds in 72 games last season. After the 2001-02 season, he was selected to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.
Like all first-round picks, Radmanovic initially signed a three-year contract with a club option for a fourth season. The Sonics had until Oct. 30 to exercise the option. After starting 16 games each of his first two seasons, Radmanovic is expected to become the team’s starting power forward in what could be a breakout season.
In addition, Sund also announced that the Sonics had requested waivers on forward Galen Young and center Mikki Moore. Young, 28, had averaged 2.3 points and 1.5 rebounds in four preseason games. Moore, 27, a five-year NBA veteran, also played in four games and had averages of 5.0 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.
The cuts leave the Sonics with 15 players in camp, including two training-camp invitees, guards Richie Frahm and Jason Hart. They must finalize their roster with 12 active players and up to three on the injured list by next Monday, Oct. 27.
