What's the best part of being a Sonics dancer? Getting paid for doing something I love to do

This has been a year of transition for Sonics Dance Team member Kendall. In addition to joining the Dance Team, Kendall also started her first year at the University of Washington this fall. Juggling school and dance has been difficult at times for her, but ultimately a rewarding experience. “It’s a lot of fun,” Kendall says of her short time dancing for the Sonics.

The best part of being a part of the Sonics Dance Team, says the avid basketball fan, is having season tickets courtside for Sonics basketball. Those tickets don’t come without a certain degree of danger. Kendall lists off the memorable hazards: “A couple of players falling on you, dodging out of their way, balls flying at you.”

In addition to the opportunity to watch great basketball up close, Kendall loves the experience of performing. “I’ve been dancing for so long that anything I can do to perform is awesome,” she says. Extremely optimistic about her Dance Team opportunity, the only negative Kendall can come up with is the busy dance schedule. “It’s really time consuming,” she indicates.

Though in just her second quarter at UW, Kendall already plans to major in business. Between school and dance, there’s little free time left for her to pursue other interests. “Dance has pretty much consumed my life since I was little,” she explains. Kendall has worked at a daycare in past summers. The kids she worked with were lucky to have a role model so motivated in both school and dance.
