What's the best part of being a Sonics dancer? Being able to perform in front of large crowds.

It’s hard to tell for certain if Sonics Dance Team member Emily runs to stay in shape for track or vice versa. When asked what she enjoys doing away from dance and school, she immediately mentions running. “I like to run, I like to compete in track,” Emily says. “That’s usually what I do.” Currently, Emily is running track competitively for Clark College in addition to her time commitment to the Sonics Dance Team.

Emily recently completed her first year on the Dance Team, and clearly enjoyed. “It’s so much fun. I love it,” she says, tabbing the ability to perform in front of thousands of Sonics fans at KeyArena as the best part of her job. It’s not all fun and games, however, as Sonics Dancers have to work hard behind the scenes. For Emily, the hardest part is clear. “Probably remembering formations and the routines because we have so many different ones,” she says, explaining, “But we get used to it because we do each dance only once.”

Beyond dance and track, Emily’s interests are like those of most any college student. “Go to movies with friends, go bowling, that kind of stuff,” she says. Still, whether it’s on the track or the KeyArena floor, it’s clear that Emily is in fact no average young woman.
