Director's Corner - Jan. 7, 2003
Dance Team Director Audrea Harris

Happy 2003! The month of December was as busy as anticipated. In addition to games and rehearsals, the dancers were out spreading holiday cheer throughout the community.

On December 7, they were at Tacoma Mall, Northgate Mall, and Redmond Town Center for the King 5 Home Team Harvest food drive. That same day, the Dance Team hosted 2002-03 SuperSonics Dance/Drill Invitational at KeyArena. All of the high school dance teams were great, and special congratulations to the Eastern Washington Elite Seniors and the Kentridge High School Chatelaines. They were the two highest scoring teams of the afternoon and earned the chance to perform at halftime of the Sonics game that evening.

We held our Dance Team holiday party on the 13th. It was an opportunity for us to let our hair down and dress up instead of seeing each other in the usual costumes and rehearsal clothes. We had a potluck style dinner, watched a video of game performances, and revealed Secret Santas. It was a fun night!

The dancers performed at halftime during the Washington Hoops Challenge at UW’s Hec Ed Pavilion on December 14. They also visited Childhaven’s John Wilson branch on the 18th, presenting each classroom with a gift and a dance performance. Prior to the New Orleans game on the 20th, a few of the girls delivered toys to KUBE 93’s “Miracle on Elliott Street.”

Did I say December was a busy month?! Even still, we had to find time to squeeze in some Christmas shopping…and the day after Christmas, they were back on the court. As crazy as our schedules get sometimes, we love our jobs!

Make sure to attend the Clippers game on January 10, the dance team has a special performance planned. I’ll be coming out of retirement for this one routine, so you don’t want to miss it. Special thanks to choreographer Rebo McFadden from Skechers USA.

If you haven’t already, make sure you take a look at the Sonics Dance Team’s new team and individual photos. They’re awesome!

Don’t miss the Sacramento game on January 30th. The new Dance Team poster will be given away that evening. You’ll also have the opportunity to get the dancers autograph it for you at halftime.

From all of us with the Sonics Dance Team, have a happy and safe year!
