Role:
Reserve guard. Ronald Murray Murray will serve as the fourth guard this season, as well as providing ‘instant offense’ off the bench when the Sonics need it. His role may be somewhat similar to the one played by former Sonics reserve guard Shammond Williams during his time in Seattle.

Outlook:
After spending the vast majority of his rookie season on the bench, Murray finally got his chance to shine while playing for the Sonics summer-league squad. Murray led the team by averaging 22.9 points per game on better than 50% shooting. He also handed out a team-best 3.1 assists per game and recorded 12 steals. The eye-opening performance may earn Murray a shot at more playing time this season, though it will be hard to come by in the Sonics backcourt.

Murray will probably not be part of the Sonics regular rotation this season, except in the case of injuries, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a role. When the Sonics are struggling offensively, Murray can be the catalyst for a turnaround. At the same time, Murray will continue to learn how to play point guard during practices. Expect him to be one of the Sonics most improved players this season, even if it may not entirely show up in the statistics.
