Blue Alliance Spotlight - Alyson Penco

How did you get started as a Blue Alliance Captain?

I would like to give the community of Alva the credit for this opportunity. During the NBA Finals in 2012, I came up with an idea to recreate Thunder Alley in Alva calling it “Thunder Alva.” We did exactly that … in only 4 DAYS! With a lot of help from the community and over 300 Thunder fans in attendance, I feel "Thunder Alva" was a tremendous success, an event only communities like Alva could pull off. I may carry the title of captain, but it’s Alva that deserves the recognition.

What got you hooked on the Thunder?

I have always been a basketball fan. It’s in my blood. I personally became a Thunder fan when they chose to be a part of the great state of Oklahoma. However, I was “hooked” on the Thunder after I realized how community-oriented they are. The entire organization is about benefiting the lives of others.

How many members do you have in your Blue Alliance Chapter?

511 and rising, although not all Thunder fans in Alva have Facebook.

What’s been your favorite moment as a Blue Alliance Captain?

Watching our community come together and enjoy the Thunder spirit. I have also had the opportunity to work with some amazing Thunder representatives. I’ve been nothing but impressed.

What’s your top goal for your chapter this season?

I look forward to building any way we can. Each event is an opportunity to benefit and provide growth within our community. The Thunder not only provides opportunities for those in OKC, but their spirit of giving encourages us all to do the same. The example is much appreciated.

How many pieces of Thunder gear do you own?

A woman can never own too many pairs of shoes. I think the same rule applies with Thunder fans and their gear … right?
