Director's Corner - Oct. 14, 2003
Dance Team Director Audrea Harris

Auditions for the 2003-04 Sonics Dance Team were held on July 19. The talent of the dancers vying for spots was incredible. Needless to say, the judges had a tough time with the selection process. The finalists selected went through a second phase of dance auditions as well as personal interviews. The final team is comprised of 13 incredible young ladies, seven veterans and six rookies. Work weekends were scheduled right away as they learned a lot of material from outstanding choreographers.

The dancers have already participated in a number of events. They’ve made appearances at NBA Rhythms & Rims, NBA Hoop It Up, American Heart Walk, Sonics & Storm Annual Golf Tournament, Everett Arena Opening, 107.7 Morning Show, and Sonics single game ticket event. A few of the dancers participated in travel appearances to Bellingham and Spokane.

We decided to continue the tradition we started last year and we will be getting together once a month outside of games and rehearsals for team bonding time. Last weekend we had a get-together where we watched dance team videos, enjoyed great food and just relaxed and hung out.

The first pre-season game was on Wednesday October 8th. The veterans were excited to get back onto the court once again, while the rookies were somewhat nervous and anxious to step onto the Key Arena floor for the very first time. Their performances went really well. I was very proud to see their hard work pay off. The veterans will be making the trip to Spokane for the pre-season game on October 18th and we will round out the month with everyone performing on the 22nd at our last pre-season game. We’ll spend those last two weeks reviewing, cleaning, and polishing up the material for our home opener on November 7th.

We have an awesome team and I guarantee that you will enjoy their performances this season. Please stay tuned for more.
