Thunder to Deliver Helping Hand for the Holidays

Oklahoma City, Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014 – The Oklahoma City Thunder continues its annual tradition of Holiday Assist this year, holding a series of signature events designed to give a helping hand to neighbors in need. Holiday Assist is presented by Cox Communications.

Holiday Assist officially kicks off this week as Rumble the Bison and the Thunder Girls join the Salvation Army to open its Angel Tree program on Thursday at Quail Springs Mall. The first Thunder event of Holiday Assist will take place during Sunday’s game against the Houston Rockets, as the team partners with Whataburger to present its annual food drive benefiting the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.

“The Thunder makes community outreach a priority year-round, but we are proud to continue several special traditions during the holiday season,” said Christine Berney, vice president of Community Relations for the Thunder. “Our players, coaches, entertainers, business partners, staff and fans all join together during this time to assist those in our community who need some extra help. It’s wonderful to see what happens when the holiday spirit connects with Thunder pride.”

Other Holiday Assist events will include a holiday meal giveaway at the Urban Mission, courtesy of the Thunder and Homeland; a Thanksgiving meal and carnival for families at the City Rescue Mission; a shopping spree for families in the Sunbeam Family Services Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program; a toy drive, in support of the Salvation Army Angel Tree program; and a holiday blood drive, in partnership with the Oklahoma Blood Institute.
