Devon Community Hero - Emily Clark

Emily Clark: March 23, 2012

Emily was on her way to work in Sulphur one morning last month when she saw a home engulfed in flames and says her instincts took over.

She noticed a truck in the driveway and figured someone must be inside the home. Seeing no fire crews on the scene, she called 911 and then went to work to get the family out of the burning house.

She and others worked to knock down the padlocked back door, and wake the sleeping family, including several young children. The family says if it weren't for her bravery, they might not have survived the fire.

Emily says she was just doing what comes naturally, prior to her cancer treatments, she worked as a firefighter for the National Parks Service.
